Psalm 8:1
Pastor Jerry Koller
Psalm 8:1
Pastor Jerry Koller
A.W. Tozer was an American pastor in the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination. He was an author and pastor who emphasized the need for a deeper knowledge of God and the development of the “inner life.” Tozer was extremely influential in evangelical Christianity in his generation and was often called a “twentieth-century prophet.”
The Church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God and has substituted for it one so low, so ignoble, as to be utterly unworthy of thinking, worshipping men. This she has done not deliberately, but little by little and without her knowledge; and her very unawareness only makes her situation all the more tragic. ~ A.W. Tozer
In the NIV, the word majesty appears 63 times.
· 30 times, it is used as a title of respect.
33 times, it is used as a superlative meaning “mightier than everything else.”

With our loss of the sense of majesty has come the further loss of religious awe and consciousness of the divine Presence. ~ Tozer
The decline of the knowledge of the holy has brought on our troubles. A rediscovery of the majesty of God will go a long way toward curing them. ~ Tozer
The word heavens (Psalm 8:1) is not limited to the atmosphere, to the universe, or to any portion of creation.
· God’s glory is beyond creation.
· The theological term for this is “transcendence.”
· God’s glory is beyond creation.

What is God like?
· God is not like anything in all of creation.
· Creation comes from the heart and mind of God.
· God has given us a heart and mind so that we may know Him.
· God is not like anything in all of creation.
· Creation comes from the heart and mind of God.
· God has given us a heart and mind so that we may know Him.
With our hearts and minds, we have the capacity to love—love God; love one another.
In order to answer the question (What is God like?), we have to examine how God has revealed Himself to us.
· God makes Himself known to us in ways we can understand.
· God makes Himself known to us in ways we can understand.
Six times in this passage, John describes what he saw by using the word like.
When God introduces us to things that lie far beyond our field of knowledge, He often uses things we know to help us understand what is beyond our comprehension.
When we try to imagine what God is like we must of necessity use that-which-is-not-God as the raw material for our minds to work on; hence whatever we visualize God to be, He is not, for we have constructed our image out of that which He has made and what He has made is not God. ~ Tozer
When we take these things too far or too literal, we fall into idolatry for what we have done is make God into whatever we want God to be.
In Romans 1, foolish man
An attribute of God is whatever God has in any way revealed as being true of Himself. ~ Tozer
Characteristics are features or qualities of someone or something. They can change.
The attributes of God are simply those qualities that are “Inherent.”
· They belong to God’s essence, His very being.
· They are not acquired, nor are they developed.
· They belong to God’s essence, His very being.
· They are not acquired, nor are they developed.
The attributes of God are “Unchanging.”
· They do not, nor can they change in form, quality, or nature.
· Theologians call this “Immutable.”
· They do not, nor can they change in form, quality, or nature.
· Theologians call this “Immutable.”
God’s attributes are “Eternal.”
Happy Birthday!

Have You Considered?
Did you know that if your bank offers online services, you can set your tithe up as a regular ‘bill payment’ through your bank? This is a convenient option to help with continuity in giving and the ability for you to tithe even when you are on vacation or miss church. It eliminates having to wonder if you turned in your offering while you were gone! If you have questions or would like more information about how to utilize this convenient option, check with your banking institution or contact the church office.
Pop Cans = Scholarships
