Jesus shared a life-changing mountain-top experience with a few of His disciples. But when they came down from the mountain, they encountered a man and his son who had been tormented for many years. It appeared that nobody could help this young man. But then he was brought to Jesus.

Questions for reflection or discussion:

1. This father and son had been suffering with this problem for many years. How would you feel if you were the boy’s parent? If you were the boy?

2. Why do you think the disciples were unable to help this boy?

3. How do you think the disciples felt when faced with this seemingly unsolvable situation?

4. What recommendations does Jesus make in verses 19, 23 and 29? How could these help you deal with a difficult issue?

5. What verse in this passage is most significant to you? Why?

6. What did you learn from this passage that could grow your trust in Jesus?

7. When have you recently felt overwhelmed by a challenging situation? Give this situation to Jesus in prayer, trusting His Spirit to do what you cannot.
