The Gift of Jesus...PRINCE OF PEACE || Week 4

ISAIAH 9:2,6-7

“2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone…6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace…7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.”
1. PEOPLE WHO WALK IN DARKNESS…

[Isa 9:2]
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.”

- Darkness symbolizes a CONFLICT…a SEPARATION from the light
- A CONFLICT has happened, a BROKENNESS has happened…and it is significant…it is actually life altering, not just in the here and now, but eternity!
2. WHAT IS THE CONFLICT, WHAT IS THIS DARKNESS WE ARE WALKING IN? Sin

- When did it happen? Genesis
- What did it break? Everything

- That sin created brokenness between mankind and mankind
- That sin created brokenness between mankind and nature
- That sin created brokenness between mankind and God
3. WHAT DID GOD DO TO SOLVE IT?

- TRUTH…We can’t fix it…nothing we can do will fix it. We needed a LIGHT to get out of the DARKNESS! We needed someone to reconcile and make peace

- JESUS is the LIGHT…Jesus is the PRINCE OF PEACE…to us!
[John 1]
“1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it…9 The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God…14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
[John 8:12]
Jesus said…“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

- ANGELS proclaimed this good news that Jesus, the Light of the World, would shatter the darkness (our sin and shame and separation) by bringing to all mankind…PEACE…
[Luke 2]
“In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. 8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you GOOD NEWS of GREAT JOY that will be for ALL THE PEOPLE. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a SAVIOR, who is CHRIST THE LORD. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth PEACE among those with whom he is pleased!” 15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.”

- GOD promised to send his Son, and that Son would be God in the flesh…God with us
[Isaiah 7:14]
“14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
[John 3:16]
“16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
[Galatians 4:4-5]
“4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”
4. JESUS, THE PRINCE OF PEACE, SOLVED THE PROBLEM!

- JESUS resolved the conflict, satisfied the judgment of God, reconciled sinners and made them saints, adopted children, forgiven, restored…

[2 Cor 5:21]
“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

- We used to walk in darkness but now we can see
- We used to live in conflict [spiritually separated because of our sin] but now we have peace, reconciliation, & restoration

Jesus is that reconciler, Jesus is that savior, Jesus is that Prince of Peace…Jesus is Immanuel, God with us
5. A CHILD IS BORN, A SON IS GIVEN…a Wonderful Counselor, a Mighty God, an Everlasting Father… the PRINCE OF PEACE…

- Immanuel…God with us…to bring us peace

- Jesus brings true peace, restoration, redemption, reconciliation, shalom

[John 14:27]
“27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”

- Trust in Jesus for peace today, tomorrow, 2024…
