James 3:2
We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they SAY is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. NIV
Stumble (Make many mistakes): To be tripped up. To loose ones footing
Perfection: Mature, healthy
James 1:4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. NIV
OUR TONGUE HAS THE POWER TO DIRECT OUR LIFE
James 3:3
When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. NIV
James 3:4
Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. NIV
OUR TONGUE HAS THE POWER TO DESTROY WHAT WE HAVE
James 3:5-6
Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body. NIV
James 3:6
It....... sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. NIV
Proverbs 21:23
If you want to stay out of trouble, be careful what you say. GNT
James 3:9-10
Sometimes it (tongue) praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right (should not be)! NLT
OUR TONGUE HAS THE POWER TO DISPLAY OUR HEART
James 3:11-12
Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water? Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring. NLT
Matthew 12:34
For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. NIV
Jeremiah 17:9
The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. NLT
Matthew 15:19
For out of the heart come evil thoughts—murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. NIV
The solution: A new heart.
Ezekiel 18:31
Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. NIV
2 Corinthians 5:17
Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! NLT
Ask God for help every day.
Psalm 141:3-4
Set a guard over my mouth, LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips. Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil. NIV
Think before you speak.
James 1:19
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. NIV.
Be quick to say, “I’m sorry”.
Be quick to ask for forgiveness.
Sow life-giving words.
James 3:18
Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. NIV
Everyday this week, speak words of life into at least one person.
