How Can It Be Done?
Colossians 3:12-13
Pastor Jerry Koller
· Cost
· Misunderstanding of Reconciliation
· Fear
To forgive means to cancel the debt of what is owed in order to provide a door of opportunity for repentance and restoration of the broken relationship.
Cheap forgiveness embraces the idea of peace at any cost
Colossians 3:12-13 shows us how we can forgive, and how we can keep the doors of opportunity open for repentance and restoration of the broken relationship.
Reminder:
· We are God’s chosen people.
· We are God’s holy people.
· We are dearly loved.
The idea of putting on something is like that of becoming or reproducing. Our thoughts, feelings, and actions must become like those of Jesus Christ because we are in Him.
Compassion is having sympathetic concern for the suffering of another coupled with the merciful desire to give aid.
· i.e. The Good Samaritan (Luke 10)
Kindness speaks of a gracious disposition. It has to do with the idea of being as concerned for the needs of a brother as you would for your own needs.
Humility has to do with not thinking of ourselves more highly than we should. It does not demand personal rights but places others and God before personal desires.
Gentleness has to do with the idea of accepting what God allows in our lives without murmuring.
· Gentleness is yielding your personal rights and expectations, with a desire to serve."
Patience comes from a compound word that literally means ‘long-anger’ or in more modern terms, “long-tempered.” Some translations use the word “longsuffering.“
Bearing with One Another has to do with the idea of being self-controlled when conflict arises between you and someone else.
· i.e. Acts 11
Forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone - in this text, this has to do with exercising grace. Grace treats your offender, the one complaining against you, better than he or she deserves just like God treats us better than we deserve when He forgives us.
Forgiveness requires that you absorb certain effects of another person’s sin and release that person from liability to punishment.

Wheelchair Ramp Needed

Doug Zantello is coordinating the project of building a wheelchair ramp at the home of Renee Goff (5668 109th Avenue, Pullman). Pending good weather, we are hoping to have two workdays. On Friday, 11/3, the posts will be set and then on Saturday, 11/4 the remainder of the deck will be finished. Start time will be 9:00am. Please bring your own tools. If you are able to help, please let Doug know (call/text 269-427-7000) or contact Kim in the church office (email southhavenfbc@gmail.com or call/text 269-767-2226) as soon as possible. Many hands make light work and the more help we have, the faster this project will go.

Oktoberfest Sunday: 11/5 - Be Prepared!

November 5 is our Oktoberfest Sunday. We plan to have an interactive service on this day and will have an open mic opportunity for the congregation to encourage others by sharing their personal blessings and how God has been faithful. Please come to worship prepared to do two things: present a financial gift of gratitude and share how God has blessed you this year.

We need a LOT of it brought in for PumpkinFest! If possible, we are asking that each household bring in two or more bags of candy to church each Sunday through October 29. Please leave your candy bags in the pumpkin can outside the church office door. Thanks for your help!

Oktoberfest Celebration 2023

A Time to Give On Sunday, November 5, we will receive a special Oktoberfest Offering.  During our morning worship service, we will have an opportunity to present a monetary gift to God in thanksgiving for His abundant blessings and in joyful celebration of being a church who is committed to being what God wants us to be.  We will receive an extremely important Oktoberfest Offering which will be used solely for payment of our building mortgage (annually about $36,000.00).  Besides celebrating God’s goodness, our Oktoberfest Celebration will also be a time when we can recommit ourselves to fulfilling God’s calling “To Know Him and Make Him Known” and to the goal of living out our faith together.  We are looking forward to what 2024 will bring as we see how God will use our building to impact the lives of others in our community.  If you are unable to join us for the service, we hope you’ll consider either mailing or making an online contribution ahead of time.  Your offering is vital to our ability to pay the mortgage.  We thank you for prayerfully considering how you can contribute.   A Time of Fellowship Following our worship service on November 5, we will enjoy a time of food and fellowship with a Potluck Dinner.  Please bring a main/side dish AND a dessert to share that feeds at least 10-12 people. Sign up online at https://www.PerfectPotluck.com/LXBV1183 to let us know what you’re bringing and to avoid too many duplicate dishes. A Time to Help If you’re able to help with the potluck (set-up, serving, and/or clean-up), please SIGN-UP ONLINE at the linke below or contact Kim Collins.
