Last week Pastor Jonathan shared this foundational truth with us; "God made me. God loves me. God is with me. I have purpose; I have hope; I am not alone". This week we are discussing the important topic of Anxiety and Depression.
Ice breaker: why do you think that anxiety and depression are so prevalent in our society?
Chances are that anxiety or depression has impacted you or someone you love. In the Old Testament, we see Elijah struggle with these very same emotions. Read 1 Kings 19:3-9 (NLT). Elijah wanted to run and hide. Have you ever been to this point of just wanting to run and hide like Elijah? What does the angel in this verse show us about the love of God?

1 Kings 19:3-9

Because of this mental unhealthiness, Elijah was overwhelmed and had a distorted view of reality. Have you ever experienced these feelings? How did you get through them?
Pastor Jonathan gave us a couple of things that we can do when anxiety or depression have a grip on us. How do you think that these steps can be helpful?
-"Zoom Out": When we are stuck on a self-view it's easier for things to become overwhelming or distorted.
-Do the Next Wise Thing: Keep going and living. Understand that in these moments even simple, normal things are so hard:
1) Start w/ honesty
2) Rest, eat, move, engage in life and with others
3) Reach out for help (counseling, doctor, medication)
4) Commit to the process. It's a journey and it may not happen all at once- You are not alone!
Read Isaiah 41:10 (NLT). Take some time and pray to our Heavenly Father. Bring the anxieties or depression that you or your loved ones may be experiencing to Him and ask for His healing and guidance over your next steps.
