Luke 10:38-42 ESV
38Now as they went on their way, Jesus
entered a village. And a woman named
Martha welcomed him into her house.
39And she had a sister called Mary, who
sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his
teaching. 40But Martha was distracted
with much serving. And she went up to
him and said, “Lord, do you not care
that my sister has left me to serve alone?
Tell her then to help me.” 41But the
Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha,
you are anxious and troubled about many
things, 42but one thing is necessary Mary
has chosen the good portion, which will
not be taken away from her.”
“We’ve traded the shoes of readiness
for the slippers of apathy.”

Peace is found in the going.
"Wearing Dunamis: The Shoes of Readiness"
Ephesians 6:10-18 ESV
10Finally, be strong in the Lord and
in the strength of his might. 11Put on
the whole armor of God, that you may
be able to stand against the schemes
of the devil. 12For we do not wrestle
against flesh and blood, but against the
rulers, against the authorities, against the
cosmic powers over this present darkness,
against the spiritual forces of evil in the
heavenly places (Spiritual Warfare).
13Therefore take up the whole armor of
God, that you may be able to withstand
in the evil day, and having done all, to
stand firm. 14Stand therefore, having
fastened on the belt of truth, and having
put on the breastplate of righteousness,
15and, as shoes for your feet, having
put on the readiness given by the gospel
of peace.16In all circumstances take up
the shield of faith, with which you can
extinguish all the flaming darts of the
evil one; 17and take the helmet of
salvation, and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God, 18praying at
all times in the Spirit, with all prayer
and supplication. To that end, keep alert
with all perseverance, making supplication
for all the saints.

Ephesians 6:15 ESV
15and, as shoes for your feet, having
put on the readiness given by the gospel
of peace.

PEACE- εἰρήνης – i-ray'-nay
Peace- Totality or completeness, Success,
Fulfillment, Wholeness, Harmony, Security,
Wellbeing

In the classic Greek, the word eirene literally
means a condition of law and order that
results in the blessing of prosperity.

In the Septuagint, the Greek word eirēnē is
used to translate the Hebrew word šālôm or
shalom (nothing lacking, nothing broken)

“Peace isn’t the absence of struggle,
it’s the presence of Jesus.”
Jesus said in-
John 14:27 ESV
27Peace I leave with you; my peace I
give to you. Not as the world gives do
I give to you. Let not your hearts be
troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Peace doesn’t necessitate the changing
of your situation, it necessitates the
changing of your perspective.
Philippians 4:11-13 ESV
11Not that I am speaking of being in need,
for I have learned in whatever situation
I am to be content. 12I know how to be
brought low, and I know how to abound.
In any and every circumstance, I have
learned the secret of facing plenty and
hunger, abundance and need. 13I can
do all things through him who strengthens
me.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 ESV
16So we do not lose heart. Though our
outer self is wasting away, our inner
self is being renewed day by day. 17For
this light and momentary affliction is
preparing for us an eternal weight of
glory beyond all comparison, 18as we
look not to the things that are seen but
to the things that are unseen. For the
things that are seen are transient, but
the things that are unseen are eternal.

Content- strong enough or possessing
enough to need no aid or support
(IN CHRIST JESUS!)

Ephesians 6:15 ESV
15and, as shoes for your feet, having
put on the readiness given by the gospel
of peace.
READINESS- ἑτοιμασία - Hetoimasia
- het-oy-mas-ee'-ah –
Preparation, prepared throne, Preparation
of the Throne, ready throne or Throne of
the Second Coming

2 Timothy 4:1-2 ESV
1I charge you in the presence of God and
of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living
and the dead, and by his appearing and
his kingdom: 2preach the word; be ready
in season and out of season; reprove,
rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience
and teaching.

Romans 10:15 ESV
15And how are they to preach unless they
are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful
are the feet of those who preach the
good news!”
CAUTION:
Don’t confuse Hesitancy with peace or contentment.
You can’t be hesitant and have on the shoes of
Readiness at the same time.

CAUTION:
If he can’t get you to fall into temptation,
he’ll get you to fall into weariness in the
middle of your “good.”
Galatians 6:9 ESV
9And let us not grow weary of doing good,
for in due season we will reap, if we do
not give up.

Weary- ἐνκακῶμεν (enkakōmen)-
To be utterly exhausted, wearied out,
spiritless.
⁃ One translation of the word is
“Cowardly.”
⁃ Another way to translate- they
omitted through
cowardice, to send assistance

Proverbs 3:11-12 ESV
12My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline
or be weary of his reproof, for the LORD
reproves him whom he loves, as a father
the son in whom he delights.

2 Thessalonians 3:13-15 ESV
13As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in
doing good. 14If anyone does not obey
what we say in this letter, take note of
that person, and have nothing to do with
him, that he may be ashamed. 15Do not
regard him as an enemy, but warn him as
a brother.

Difference between tired and weary-
• Tired is what happens when we
have worked hard and need a break.
Weary is what happens when we
lose sight of the why.
• You become weary when you
stop trusting that God is in the
middle of your situation.
• You become weary when you
prioritize your will over His.

How do we guard against weariness?
• Daily encounters - refocus on
Jesus. What is He saying?
Where is He leading?

• Gratitude- stop having your head
on a swivel
• What an insult to the Father to
covet what someone else has when
God has given you so much.
• Look at everything He’s done!

• Don’t focus on the enemy
• Witchcraft. Attacks. Delays.
• Be aware, yes…but…What is
Jesus doing in the midst of it?
• What can I do? Have I done it?
Then be thankful and content in
the waiting.

“Weariness isn’t something that happens
because of too much work. Weariness is
what happens when we’re working toward
our priorities and not His.”
Luke 10:38-42 ESV
38Now as they went on their way, Jesus
entered a village. And a woman named
Martha welcomed him into her house.
39And she had a sister called Mary, who
sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his

him and said, “Lord, do you not care that
my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell
her then to help me.” 41But the Lord
answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are
anxious and troubled about many things,
42but one thing is necessary. Mary has
chosen the good portion, which will not
be taken away from her.”
The spirit of Religion:
· Religion puts work and burdens on
you that He never intended.
· Religion prioritizes man’s desires
over God’s.
· The religious are always weary and
when we get weary, we get angry at
those that are at peace.

· Weary people equate worship with
waste.
· Weary people equate emotion with
emotionalism.
· Weary people are to focused on the
sins of others to be grateful for the
forgiveness of their own.

Mark 14:9 ESV
9And truly, I say to you, wherever the
gospel is proclaimed in the whole world,
what she has done will be told in memory
of her.

Matthew 28:19-20 ESV
19Go therefore and make disciples of all
nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe
all that I have commanded you. And
behold, I am with you always, to the
end of the age.”

· You can’t be weary when you’re
with Jesus and you can’t be with Jesus
if you’re not going where He’s going.
Matthew 10:7-8, 11-12 ESV
And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The
kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8Heal the
sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast
out demons.

11And whatever town or village you enter,
find out who is worthy in it and stay there
until you depart. 12As you enter the house,
greet it. 13And if the house is worthy, let
your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy,
let your peace return to you. 14And if anyone
will not receive you or listen to your words,
shake off the dust from your feet when you
leave that house or town.
