HOW COULD I EVER FORGIVE THAT PERSON AFTER WHAT THEY HAVE DONE?
LOOK AT THE HEART OF UN-FORGIVENESS
A DEBTOR IS SOMEONE WHO OWES YOU.
GOD NEVER DESIGNED YOU TO CARRY THE WEIGHT OF SOMEONES ELSE’S DEBT!
IF WE ARE NOT CAREFUL UNFORGIVENESS CAN NOT ONLY ROB OUR LIFE BUT CAN ROB OUR ETERNITY!
FORGIVENESS IS A HABIT OF GOD!
WE SHOULD HAVE THE HABIT OF FORGIVENESS
THERE’S A DEEPER TRUTH OF FORGIVENESS WE OFTEN MISS
YOU DIDN’T KNOW WHEN YOU BURIED ME, I WAS SEED BEING PLANTED IN THE PLACE OF GOD.
GOD DOESN’T GIVE YOU A PLAN B. HE REDEEMS WHAT MAN MEANT FOR EVIL AND GIVES YOU A WHOLE NEW PLAN A.
INSTEAD OF NOT FORGIVING WE PRAY FOR YOUR ENEMIES.
THE DEVIL WANTS TO UN-PURPOSE YOUR PAIN AND KEEP YOU FROM SHARING IT WITH PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW, “THIS IS THE PLACE OF GOD!”
Talk It Over
1. What stood out to most about the message? What did God confirm in your life? What made you uncomfortable? What challenged you the most?
2. Pastor Sean said, “God never designed you to carry the weight of someones else’s debt! Would you consider yourself a person of forgiveness or a person who finds it difficult to forgive and why? How do you believe unforgiveness effected your life?
3. Read Matthew 18:21-35. It is a parable of the unforgiving servant. What stood out to you about the way Jesus sees un-forgiveness? Ephesians 4:12 says, “forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” What does it look like for you to be obedient to Christ when someone sins against you?
4. Discuss this quote, “forgiveness is a habit of God - that God isn't counting our sins against us. That not one sin or area of our life is beyond redemption.”
5. Jospeh was left for dead, sold into salvary, accused of sexual acts that never took place, and left in prison to rot, but God used all these acts of evil to bring Joseph into the “place of God.” (see Genesis 50:19) How does it make you feel that “what man means for evil, God uses for his good?” Respond to this quote, “You didn’t know when you buried me, I was seed being planted in the place of God.” Have you found that true in your own life? If so and you feel comfortable share what God has done.
6. Pastor Sean said, “God doesn’t replace your plan A with a plan B. He redeems what man meant for evil and gives you a whole new plan A.” Do you believe that? Who needs to hear that story in your life? Are you committed to use redemptive eyes as you walk through life and share with others your story for those who are struggling to forgive and see they are in God’s place.
