Use this space to take your general notes during the message.
Most people want to do and become something great things in their lifetime. This is especially true for followers of Jesus. We assume that the people God uses are always confident, willing, and ready to go! However, oftentimes, they are actually reluctant and even unwilling as we will see this week as we go through the story of Moses and the Burning Bush.
God asked Moses to do something great. He asked him to deliver His people from slavery in Egypt. Pastor Jonathan summarized this story for us but to read the story of Moses and the Burning Bush for yourself, Read Exodus 3-4. How did Moses react to God's command of him? If you were in Moses' place, do you think you would have had a similar reaction?
As followers of Jesus, the story of Moses directly impacts us now. It's not simply a story about something that happened in the past. It is an example of how to react when God calls you to do something BIG. As Pastor Jonathan reminded us, "Following Jesus will eventually require you to do what you feel you can't or just don't want to do." Have you ever had this experience? If so, how did you react in that situation?
At some point, we will all face burning bush moments. In these moments, automatic negative thoughts ("ANTS") will likely try and take over. We see clear examples of this in the story of Moses; "not qualified", "can't communicate well", and "it's too dangerous". What negative thoughts have you experienced in your own burning bush moments?
It is important to know that God is with you and will help you. This is the same thing that God wanted Moses to know! Why do you think it is so hard for us to accept this truth?
What would you do if you knew and trusted God is with you? What next step following Jesus would you take? He will help you with His strength and grace through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Take some time and ask out Heavenly Father for help with these difficult moments when we feel unable to do the next right thing.
