The King is Coming
Luke 19:28-44
I. The King Comes Humbly.
A. The setting for this humble approach to Jerusalem.
B. Jesus instructs his disciples to get a donkey colt.
1. Fulfillment of Zechariah prophecy.
2. Identification with kings in the royal line of David.
3. Reflection of the attitude of this new kind of king.
C. Jesus’ disciples obtain the colt and put Jesus on it.
1. The colt is found as Jesus had instructed.
2. The colt is taken without objections.
3. The colt is saddled and mounted.
II. The King is Honored with Praise.
A. The crowd of disciples come out with much rejoicing.
1. Praising God for the many miracles witnessed.
2. Singing an ancient song of homage to their deliverer king.
3. Concluding with a note of peace and glory.
B. The Pharisees call for the crowds to be admonished.
1. Fearful of arousing too much attention.
2. Met with Jesus’ refusal to comply.
III. The King Weeps Deeply for a Blinded Populace.
A. Bleeding for hearts misdirected by political solutions.
B. Bleeding over spiritual complacency under the guise of
religion.
C. Bleeding for a people facing a devastating judgment for
rejecting the King.
1. The city will be leveled and its citizens destroyed.
2. The heart of this new kind of king manifests in deep love
for his people.
