June 4, 2023 / YES! / Your YES Will Always Give Way To Hope

Let’s be honest, we put our YES on a lot of things in life. Some good. Some are not always best. If you’ve been around our campus long enough, you’ve heard our Campus Pastor, Kent Wells ask, “Is your YES on the table for what God wants to do in your life?” That’s what this whole series is about. A life lived with a huge YES to God on the table is a life-well-lived.

HOPE isn’t found in an event, or a decision, or a paycheck or even people.

HOPE isn’t predicted by doing good or doing better today than I did yesterday.

HOPE is the opposite of doubt & it’s fear’s worst enemy.

HOPE properly placed, has the potential to change the whole world.
The beautiful thing about HOPE – it can’t be lost.
1. HOPE must be set on the living God.

Paul writes to Timothy...

1 Timothy 4:9-16...
9 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance. 10 For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. 11 Command and teach these things. 12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching. 14 Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. 15 Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. 16 Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.
1 Timothy 1:1-4...
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, 2 to Timothy, my true child in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3 As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, 4 nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith.
1 Timothy 1:18-19...
18 This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 19 holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith,
2. As a believer... always HOPE in Christ.

Paul writes to the Philippians...

Philippians 1:18-30...
18…Yes, and I will rejoice
19 for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance…
20 as it is my eager expectation and HOPE that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
22 If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. 23 I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better.
24 But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that in me you may have ample cause to glory in Christ Jesus, because of my coming to you again.
27 Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, 28 and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God. 29 For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake, 30 engaged in the same conflict that you saw I had and now hear that I still have.
3. As a believer... HOPE abounds in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13...
May the God of HOPE fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in HOPE.

Paul's Proud Work…

Romans 15:16-21...
16 …to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles may be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17 In Christ Jesus, then, I have reason to be proud of my work for God. 18 For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to bring the Gentiles to obedience—by word and deed, 19 by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God—so that from Jerusalem and all the way around to Illyricum I have fulfilled the ministry of the gospel of Christ;
20 and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else's foundation, 21 but as it is written, “Those who have never been told of him will see, and those who have never heard will understand.
Let’s make it our mission to find…
- Ones who don’t have HOPE.
- One who haven’t HEARD.
- Ones who need HELP.
- Ones who need HIM.
4. Your YES will always help people find hope here..
