We need to run to our Heavenly Father.
“You have made us for yourself O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” ~ Augustine
“You have made us for yourself O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” ~ Augustine
#1 Run towards God’s words about you.
The source of the words determines their weight.
#2 As a child of God, Lord teach me to see myself through my heavenly father’s eyes
The same love and lens that I see a child through is just a fraction of the love God has for us, his children.
The same love and lens that I see a child through is just a fraction of the love God has for us, his children.
We are Safe in His Arms.
He hears and listens to us.
He Delights in You!
As a child of God, our Heavenly Father sees us through the lens of Jesus’ sacrifice.
As a child of God, when I see as God sees me, I am his cherished child, and heir to the throne of almighty God
#3 As a child of God, Lord teach me that restlessness is a gift.
God has a recipe for your restlessness
It’s really important to acknowledge that our restlessness, anxiety, and lack of peace may be a gift from God drawing us to Him.
How do you even become a Child of God?
How do I become a child of God? Simply believe Jesus is who He said he was and accept his sacrifice on the cross as a payment for our sins.
Two men came to offer up in Jesus’ death what it was too hard to offer in life because they were afraid of what people would thought of them!
God is not asking us to DO more of anything… to become his Child he simply asks us to believe!
God is not asking us to DO more of anything… to become his Child he simply asks us to believe!
The rest and peace you are looking for is found when we say, Lord, Teach me to be a child of God.
Talk It Over
1. Remember as a child what it was like to run into the arms of your parents or grandparents? Diane said, “We stopped running, not altogether, but we stopped running to our parents, and it became so easy to run to other things.” As you reflect on what it is to be God’s child would you say you are running more towards him, away from him, or in a holding pattern? Give an example of why you answered that way? What has been the thing driving you in your direction?
2. Proverbs 31:25 says, "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” Diane reminded us that the, “the source of the words determines their weight.” The power of the person determines the permission you allow the words to enter your heart. As God child, His word reign supreme! How powerful are God’s words in your life? What other voices in your life are battling for the number position in your heart? How do you battle those words?
3. Zephaniah 3:17 says, "For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Diane reminds us that we must see ourselves through our Heavenly Fathers eyes that the same love and lens that we see our children through is just a fraction of the love God has for you - his children. Describe how you believe God sees you. What words of God describe how God sees you? How would you rate your self talk, more through the lens of Jesus or through the lens of the world? Describe how you bring your thoughts into submission to Jesus as a child of God.
4. Respond to this quote. Diane said, “It’s really important to acknowledge that our restlessness, anxiety, and lack of peace may be a gift from God drawing us to Him.” How accurate do you find this quote to be in your life? What things have lead you back to Jesus? What verses come to mind as you consider God using your circumstance and struggles to bring you back to him?
5. The rest and peace you are looking for is found in being a child of God. 1 John 5:1 says, “Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too.” You can be a child of God today be confessing your sins to him and asking Jesus to save your soul. Diane mentioned that Nicodemus did in Jesus death what he was too afraid to do in Jesus life - embrace Him as his follower and child. What is holding you back today? Take the step of faith to follow Jesus today.
