When it comes to idols in our lives and things that compete for our focus and commitment to God, it's the stuff that seems to get us the quickest! Money, possessions, and the things we do to acquire it all (jobs, careers, etc...) can become the center of our lives if we're not careful. What are some examples of this that you have seen in your own life and in the lives of those you know?

Pastor Eric reminded us that "whatever has your attention has you". Day to day and week to week, what regularly competes for your attention?

We live in a culture that idolizes acquiring stuff. Read 1 John 2:15-17. How can we reject the value system of our world while still maintaining our love for the people in it?

In today’s culture, with so many different things competing for our attention, how do you think that Jesus guide us?

Read Ephesians 5:1-2. Pastor Eric gave us 3 ways that we can imitate God. How can you apply these 3 things to your day-to-day life?

Imagine if you and I lived higher than our desire to acquire? Think about the difference our lives could make if we would give them to Him. Take some time and pray to our Heavenly Father over your next steps in this journey to keep our focus on Him.

Take time and pray. Ask God to help you lay aside your opinions and to consider the countercultural way of Jesus. Ask our Heavenly Father to give you compassion to handle difficult situations and conversations, and for Him to show ways that you can love others.
