In God’s Appointed Season
Titus 1:1-4
Pastor Jerry Koller
At the very beginning of this letter, we clearly see the author is the Apostle Paul.
He calls himself a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ.
Paul is a servant of God by calling.
· He is an apostle set apart for the Gospel.
To say the Holy Spirit no longer bestows the gift of apostle on people today nullifies the truth of Ephesians 4:11-12:
Paul’s apostolic message focuses on a faith and knowledge
In verse 3, Paul continues to address his calling. He said, ...
In verse 4, we see to whom Paul is writing: Titus.
In verse 5, we read what Titus’ mission was:
Titus was to straighten out what was left unfinished.
· He was to set things in order.
Over the past 153 years, the methods we have used to carry out the purposes of a local church have changed and adapted to the circumstances of the times.
We continue to instruct/equip the body, evangelize the lost, live out our faith together, and worship as a corporate body.
· These purposes never change for they are timeless purposes.
· They are sacred.
· The methods we use to carry out these purposes need to adapt and change if they are not achieving their goals.
· Methods must never become sacred.
APPLICATION
Paul had certain responsibilities to carry out in God’s seasons for him.
· Titus had his own responsibilities to carry out in God’s season for him.
· We, as servants of God, have responsibilities we are expected to carry out in God’s season for us.
· As a church, we will continue to carry out the purposes God has for any local church in God’s season for us.
We may need to change some of our methodology, but that is okay. Methods are not sacred.
Just as Paul and Titus were servants of God, so all of us who are in Christ Jesus are also servants of God. May we serve together for His praise and honor.
