Turning Hearts, Pleasing God - Cedric Holl

Turning Hearts, Pleasing God - Cedric Holl

1 Kings tells us the story of Elijah challenging the prophets of Baal and proving God's power and sovereignty to the Israelite nation. God answered Elijah's prayer and the Israelites' hearts turned back to God. Sometimes it's easy to be swayed by the things of the world, but God calls us to turn to him and follow the example of Jesus in how we live our lives - to live as children of light.

1. Disobedience leads us astray

Disobedience leads away from God - into the world and into trouble - leading to sin and death. But God always makes a way for redemption, repentance and turning away from sinful living.
2. God's call is to obey His command

Elijah listened to God and was obedient. God used Elijah's obedience to turn the Israelite nation back to him.
3. Obedience can be lonely

Sometimes we can feel alone on this obedience journey. Elijah felt alone, even though he wasn't.
If you are feeling alone against the world, it doesn't change who God is and what His commands are.
4. Don't be quiet

Our voice of Truth is needed in this world which is falling apart. We need to voice ourselves in humility with love, letting people know what we stand on and for.
5. What has God called you to?

We are called to follow the example of God as children of light. Ask God what he wants you to do for the Kingdom? And then do it.
Let's apply it:
Set aside the things of the world and live in a Godly way.
