"Worth the Wait, Pt. 1: Who is Holy Spirit
We are conditioned to want to know what’s next to a great story, experience, or journey.
The Holy Spirit is our Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby). He is the source of our power, and without Him, we cannot live the Christian life.
For the Christian, He is your best friend, the one whose really with you all of the time, the creator of those thoughts in the recesses of your mind and the promptings in your spirit that urges you to do right, want more, yearn for love, and thirst for God.

I’m here to challenge you, if you’re Christian, to recognize Him as the author of everything good in your life and the instigator of every right decision that you thought was just you.
This is who He is and what He does:
1. The Holy Spirit was sent to help us live the Christian life. He empowers us to overcome sin, to live a life of holiness, and to bear fruit in our lives.
a. Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."
b. Our flesh does not want to comply with this directive.
2. The Holy Spirit also guides us and teaches us.
John 16:13, Jesus says, "When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come."
a. All too often we give intuition, education, experience, and “knowing” too much credit for what He does.
3. He is our intercessor & advocate (Grk. huper – superior, above, beyond & en-toong-kahn-o = confer with, entreat) making petitions for us when we pray in tongues.
** Remember Jesus said, “…in my place…”
4. He is our strengthener that gives us the power to keep going even when our flesh is weak.
5. He is our standby that is ready for duty or deployment. Standby – readiness for duty or immediate deployment.
Conclusion:

Now that we know WHO He is, we will talk about the POWER He possesses. God gave us Holy Spirit for every day of our lives, not just for church, prayer, Connect Group meetings, and when we’re in trouble, but for every part of every day of our lives. He’s on standby waiting to be optimized. There’s no reason for any Believer to be in a state of confusion, frustration, or even distress when we understand the POWER that lives in us called Holy Spirit, our Paraclete, our helper, guide, advocate, comforter, and friend. Let us not forsake the importance of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Let us seek Him, let us rely on Him, and let us allow Him to guide and empower us to live the Christian life that God has called us to. May the Holy Spirit fill us and work in us to bring glory to God.
