This week we kick off a brand new series that we are calling "Knockoff

gods". It's a series about who or what sits in the place of worship in our

lives, about who/what our "God" is, really.

Read Exodus 20:3-5 (NIV). We often think that idols are obvious and hard

to miss. However, in today's culture, idols are often quite subtle. In today's

society, what are we worshiping? In other words, where is our devotion and

what are we prioritizing?

Pastor Jonathan went through the list of the most common idols (aka "knockoff gods") in our lives. Check out the list below. Do any of these

things resonate with you? Why do you think that they have such a hold on

your life?

◦ Job/Career

◦ Name, position, power

◦ Comfort, convenience, pleasures

◦ Acceptance, approval of others

The truth is that worshiping Jesus influences ALL of these things in the list

above- and more! Have you seen evidence of this influence? In what ways

have you seen the ripple effect that following Jesus has in our lives?

Read Matthew 16:24 (NIV). What does Jesus mean when He says that

followers must "take up their cross and follow me"? How does it feel to

read this statement?

Read Matthew 28:19 (NIV). Take a few moments and pray to our Heavenly

Father. Ask Him to reveal the areas in your own life that you need to allow

Him authority over.
