Early in the morning on the first day of the week after the Sabbath, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were going to the tomb. While they were on their way, an earthquake shook everything as an angel came and rolled away the heavy stone from the tomb's entrance. The angel looked like lightening and was wearing the whitest clothes.
The guards, who were supposed to protect the tomb, were so afraid that they trembled and dropped to the dirt like dead men.
As the women approached the tomb, they found the angel sitting on the huge stone door. The angel told the women not to be afraid. He knew they were looking for Jesus, so the angel told them that Jesus was alive just as He had promised! Then the angel sent them to go tell the disciples what had happened, that Jesus had been raised from the dead!
While the women were on their way to tell the disciples, filled with a mixture of fear and joy, they met Jesus. Overwhelmed with joy at seeing it was true, they fell at His feet and worshipped Him!
Jesus told them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

Main Point: Jesus is alive!
On the morning of the third day, Jesus rose bodily from the dead! In doing that, He was showing that He not only had power and authority over sin, but that He also had power and authority over death.

Spend time praying
Father God,
we are so thankful that You sent Jesus, Your Son, to save us from our sin by dying on the cross as our substitute, and that He conquered death by rising from the dead to reign forever more!
Amen.
