After Jesus had been tried by Pilate and found to be innocent, Pilate delivered Jesus over to the chief priests to be crucified as they wished. Jesus was taken to Golgotha where He was crucified.

While Jesus was being crucified, even though it was the middle of the day, it became as dark as night. Jesus cried out to God asking, “Why have you forsaken me?” Then Jesus cried out again, and died.

After Jesus’ death, the curtain in the temple was torn from the top to the bottom [symbolizing that the barrier between God and man was gone] and many other miracles happened.

Main Point: Jesus willingly died for our sins.

The Bible is clear that the wages, or what we earn for our sin, is death. We also see that Jesus paid the debt that we owe for our sin when He died on the cross. Through His death we can have life.

Dear Jesus,
thank you for willingly giving Your life as a substitute for me. Thank you for loving me enough to pay my sin debt with Your perfect life.
