After Jesus had been arrested, He was brought to the house of the high priest. In the crowd, Peter followed at a distance.

At one point in the night, around the light of a fire, a servant girl recognized Peter as a follower of Jesus. Peter denied it saying, “Woman, I do not know him.”

Later, another person recognized Peter as one of them, and again Peter denied knowing Jesus. After another hour, another person accused Peter of being with them since he was Galilean, and for the third time Peter denied knowing who Jesus was.

Immediately, while Peter was still speaking and denying that he knew Jesus, a rooster crowed.

From across the crowd of angry people, Jesus looked at him and Peter remembered that Jesus had told him earlier that night that he would deny Jesus three times. Peter was crushed by what he had done, left, crying bitterly.

Main Point: Jesus forgives our sins.

Even though Peter denied Jesus here in this passage, Jesus forgave him and used him to minister to others when He was gone.
