Sermon Series: Romans
Sermon: Serving God from the Heart
Passage: Romans 2:25-29
Pastor Dan Thoemke
Introduction

Context of Paul’s audience

Story to share:

Problem is:

Defining Physical Circumcision vs. Circumcision of the Heart:
1. Outward expressions of our faith have less value (v. 25).

a. Unless it is a motive of the heart.

b. Unless it is about growth and maturity out of obedience.
2. Outward expressions of our faith do not always indicate a heart fully yielded to God (vv. 26-28).

a. Right living does not always mean it is for the right reason, though praised by people.

b. Right living can also set one up to judge those who are falling short.

c. The fact that you were born into a Christian or religious family does not indicate transformation.
3. The transformation of the heart (v. 29).

a. Is an inward journey before an outward expression.

b. The Spirit of God is the one who performs the transformation, not the written law.

c. The only praise that matters in the end is from God.
Application

1. Check your alignment between your profession of faith and your actions. Do they line up?

2. Are there religious things you are doing out of obligation to please others versus a response from the heart toward God?
