HOW DO YOU STILL SAY I DO?
YOUR MARRIAGE IS AS GOOD AS YOU DECIDE IT’S GOING TO BE.
IT’S TIME WE STOP FEELING AND START YIELDING.
IT’S TIME WE STOP FEELING AND START YIELDING.
NEVER DOUBT WHAT GOD CAN DO BY SHINING YOUR LIGHT.
HOW MANY MARRIAGES WOULD BE SAVED SIMPLY THROUGH GIVING THANKS?
YOUR PRAYERS SET THE POTENTIAL OF YOUR MARRIAGE!
OUR GREATEST DESIRE FOR OUR WIVES IS THAT THEY FALL DEEPLY IN LOVE WITH JESUS.
IF YOU DON’T LIKE WHAT YOU ARE GETTING, CHANGE WHAT YOU ARE GIVING.
IF YOU DON’T LIKE WHAT YOU ARE GETTING, CHANGE WHAT YOU ARE GIVING.
YOUR MARRIAGE IS PICTURE OF CHRIST AND THE CHURCH
TODAY IS THAT DAY TO REPENT—TO TURN BACK TO GOD AND DO THE THINGS YOU DID AT FIRST!
TALK IT OVER
- Respond to these quotes. There’s no right or wrong answers—Simply describe what you believe Pastor Sean was communicating through God’s Word:
Your marriage is as good as you decide it’s going to be.
It’s time we stop just feeling and start yielding to God.
Your prayers set the potential for your marriage!
How many marriages would be saved simply through giving thanks?
Never doubt what God can do through you shining your light.
Submission to your husband isn’t blind follow-ship, it’s standing behind his leadership and saying I trust you.
The way you love her should make it easy for her to follow your lead.
If you don’t like what you are getting, change what you are giving.
Our greatest desire for our wives is that they fall deeply in love with Jesus.
As husbands, we are called to be a catalyst of the things of God in our marriage.
Your marriage is a picture of Christ and the church. It’s not casual or a contract, but a covenant before God.
Today is the day to repent—to turn back to God and do the things you did at first.
Application Questions:
1. Matthew 19:4-6 says, “Haven’t you read,” he (Jesus) replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” God repeats this passage three times throughout the Bible from Genesis through to the New Testament Church. How significant is this truth in terms of our marriages today? Pastor Sean said, “your marriage is bigger than you; it’s you as ONE pulling together for the things of God.” If you were to evaluate your marriage in terms of pulling together, or equally yoked for the things of Christ, how would you rate your marriage?
2. Ephesians 5:8-10 says, "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord.” How significant has pleasing the Lord been in building a healthy marriage? Pastor Sean said, “It’s time we stop just feeling and start yielding to God.” How has yielding to God made a difference in your marriage? If you were to grow in your marriage, what area(s) in your life would need to be given to God?
3. Ephesians 5:17-20 says, “Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.” Being filled with the Spirit of God puts a song on your lips that you can’t help but to share. Would you say that your lips are filled with more of the sweet things of the Spirit of God or the sour things of the world? Why did you answer that way? If you were to be filled with more of the Spirit of God, what one or two shifts could you make to change what’s coming out of your mouth?
4. Revelation 2:4-5 says, “Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first.” If you are married, spend a few minutes and consider—are you closer to Jesus now through your marriage or are you farther away? If you are closer, describe how much closer, if you are farther away how much farther away? Go back to the beginning: imagine the altar, bride, honeymoon—are you willing to have that kind of love, passion, care, trust, intimacy, friendship, and communication? Pray together with your spouse and take one step today.
