◾️ Long before “Alexa,” “Siri,” “Hey Google” - or for Trekkies, “Computer,” there was a Listener who heard our cries and worries and fears and inquiries and hopes and dreams and all that our hearts speak. The Listener is The Lord God Almighty. It isn’t so amazing that we call to God. What’s amazing is that He calls to us. He speaks to you. The question is, “Are you listening to Him?” In this series we’ll see what the Bible says about how to listen for God’s voice. Together we’ll discover “how to hear God talk,” “how God talks to us” and “how to recognize that it's God talking.”

James 2:26 (ESV) For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

WHEN WE SPEAK OUR MIND, FAITH WORKS WHEN:

1. WE ARE IN CONTROL OF OUR BODY

2. WE SEE HOW POWERFUL OUR TONGUE IS

MATTHEW 15:11 (ESV) A man is not defiled by what enters his mouth, but by what comes out of it. “A slender portion of flesh contains in it the whole world of iniquity.” John Calvin

Matthew 5:22 (ESV) But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' will be subject to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be subject to the fire of hell.

Matthew 12:34 (ESV) You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

Romans 3:9-14 (ESV) What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, 10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” 13 “Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips.” 14 “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”

3. WE KNOW THE SOURCE OF THE PRODUCT

Romans 7:14-15 (ESV) For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin. 15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.

Matthew 5:43-46 (ESV) You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

4. THE WISDOM IS FROM ABOVE

Galatians 5:22-26 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
