The Jesus way is to gather in order to scatter to reach people not connected to God. That’s what I want to look at today. His way or pattern was to gather people to send them to take the hope of God to those who do not have that hope.
While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners? --Matthew 9:10-11

The life of REACHING OUT isn’t about trying to convince people, convict people or coerce people…. It’s a life, centered on LOVE and living out the love of Jesus for others to experience.
Jesus’ greatest value was to go after those who needed God the most. He told the story or parable of a shepherd who left 99 sheep in danger, out in the open field, to find one sheep that was lost. The one who’s lost is so important to Jesus. That’s the first part of the pattern of Jesus.
Here’s the second part to that pattern - We gather to scatter. We see this pattern in how Jesus trained his first disciples. It’s a pattern he set for the church he established.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. --Matthew 28:19-20.

We gather to scatter. What I’ve learned over my 45 years of ministry is this. Churches that thrive do so because God blesses.These churches are invested in the world outside the walls of the church. He blesses the church that scatters. Be Jesus outside the walls of this church.
Be the church that Jesus sends that takes the love of Jesus to others.
