Letters to the Church — Deception: A Present Reality
Pastor Nathan Wakefield continues our Letters to the Church sermon series in 2 Thessalonians. This week in 2 Thessalonians 2, we learn that deceptive teaching is a danger we must look out for, but it should not cause us to lose hope because we know that the truth of the Gospel will prevail. 1. Deceptive teaching is dangerous to the Christian (1‑5).
• Deceptive teaching can rob the Christian of their hope (1‑2).
• Accurate teaching must be tested to be consistent with the message of Scripture (1‑2).
• In the case of the Day of the Lord, there are some important prerequisites that need to be met (3‑5).
Action: Determine to study Scripture so that you are not easily deceived!

2. Deceptive teaching is present and it will get worse but we should not lose hope (6‑12).
• Know that even though there is much evil in the world, God is actually holding back the worst of it (6‑7).
• Never forget that the end is already written and God wins! (8)
• Recognize the basic traits of Satan's deceptive works (9‑12).
Action: Perform a humility check. Are you content waiting for Jesus to act to destroy evil while taking your responsibility to defend righteousness seriously?

Action: Commit to purposeful, meaningful engagement with the truth found in Scripture.
