How to get the most out of our Week of Prayer and Fasting
1. Set your prayer objectives.
“You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”
James 4:2-3 NIV

James 4:2-3 NIV
2. Decide what type of fasting you will do.
“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth; they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
Matthew 6:16-18 NIV

3. Make it a heart thing, not a food thing.
“Even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God... “
Joel 2:12-13 NIV

Joel 2:12-13 NIV
4. Put to death the flesh.
“For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live...”
Romans 8:13 NIV

Romans 8:13 NIV
5. Choose a different lifestyle.
“Why have we fasted,” they say, “and you have not seen it? Why have we humbled ourselves, and you have not noticed?” “Yet on the day of your fasting, you do as you please...”
Isaiah 58:3 NIV

Isaiah 58:3 NIV
6. Expect results.
“Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I….”
Isaiah 58:8-9 NIV
