Over half of the Old Testament books have direct prophecies about Jesus, but the whole OT points ahead to Him.
When Jesus fulfilled prophecy, it confirmed He is who He says He is.
Secular historians and other religions acknowledge Jesus existed.
The question is whether He is divine. Is He the Son of God? Is He the Messiah?
Fulfilled prophecy is a confirmation that He is and a testimony to the trustworthiness of the Message of the Scriptures.
If Jesus wasn’t God incarnate
How could He “arrange” to be born in a specific family?
How could He “arrange” to be born in a specified city where His parents don’t actually live?
How could He “arrange” His own death – specifically by crucifixion, with two others, and then “arrange” to have His executioners gamble for His clothing?
How could He “arrange” to be betrayed in advance?
How could He “arrange” to have the executioners carry out the regular practice of breaking the legs of the two victims on either side, but not His own?
How could He raise to life from death and then appear to people after having been killed?

The first prophecy about Jesus
This captures a picture of Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection.
We can take hope in that prophecy, because it is the first place God went in addressing the fall of His creation.
God foretold of a day when the struggle with sin would be over, and the power of death, sin, and the grave would be broken forever.
This prophecy confirms why Jesus had to come. He had to come live a perfect life, die a gruesome death, raise back to glorious life i to purchase our eternal redemption.
This tells us where Christ would be born and to what family.
We see the fulfillment of this prophecy in Matthew where Joseph and Mary travel to Bethlehem to be counted in the census. While there, Jesus was born!
Bethlehem is small among Judah, showing the humble nature of Christ’s birth.
Jesus would be born to a humble family in a humble location – but is the king that brings the undying kingship to the clan of Judah. But the position of King that Jesus would fulfill was not an earthly or physical kingdom – but a divine one with a divine purpose.
Jesus is the Son of God and will rule eternally.
God points to who Jesus is by providing the sign Himself and powerfully delivering the fulfillment of His Word.
Christ’s nature is revealed because it is the virgin who will conceive.
Jesus could not provide the perfect sacrifice if He had sin nature in Him.
Matthew 1 says that once Mary and Joseph married, they did not consummate their marriage until after Christ’s birth.
Jesus was not just 100% man, He was also 100% God. The fullness of God dwelt in Him.
The Son who was given
Wonderful Counselor
Mighty God
Everlasting Father
Prince of Peace
We don’t live in anticipation of His birth. He has already come. He was born.
But even though we look back – not ahead to these things, we still live in anticipation.
We anticipate His return!
This prophecy speaks to the redemption of the Jews that will happen upon Christ’s return.
Grace is evident even in His return.
This grace causes the spirit of anticipation the people had before Christ’s birth to rise in us today.
Jesus was taken into heaven – but he will return in the same way that He went.
We look ahead to His return because of what it means for us and for all mankind.
In His first coming, Jesus was the suffering Servant.
In His second coming, Jesus will be the conquering King.
In His first coming, Jesus arrived in the most humble of circumstances.
In His second coming, Jesus will arrive with the armies of heaven at His side.
His return to judge the nations should produce an urgency based in apprehensiveness for ourselves but concern for all those who do not know Him yet. That should put us on our feet and send us to the streets to proclaim the gospel.
Jesus’s return will be full of glory and power.
Jesus is returning as the conquering king – ready to defeat for all eternity the enemies of God. But the purpose of His return is connected to the purpose of His first coming.
He has delivered us completely and one day will be gathering us to Himself to spend eternity with Him – as we were created to do!
When will He return?
While we don’t know when Jesus will return – we can be certain that we are closer today to His return than another other point in history before us. We must recognize that His return is imminent. He is coming – and He is coming soon.
For us, anticipating the Savior means we live with the urgent expectation of His return. If we aren’t anticipating the Savior’s return – how will those who don’t know Him ever come to meet Him?

Worship Through Giving

Scripture tells us that the things we spend our money on reveal what is in our heart (Matthew 6:21). We believe that cheerful and sacrificial giving of our finances to the work of the local church is one of the deepest expressions of worship that we can offer and shows that we truly want to love as Jesus loved.
