◾️ We’ve all read books, heard messages, followed steps to try to change something about ourselves. Yet, so often we find ourselves right back where we started…sometimes even worse off. How can we become better versions of ourselves - and make changes that truly last - changes that let us become who God created us to be? ME TRANSFORMED is a series that zeroes in on the KEY to being fully transformed through our walk with Jesus: our minds.

HOW TO THINK ABOUT SIN SO I SIN LESS

SIN’S SCRIPTURAL MEANING: WHAT IS SIN?
1. SIN IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH GOD AND GOOD.

7 All He does is just and good, and all His commandments are trustworthy. Psalm 111:7 (NLT)

9 The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all His creation.” Psalm 145:9 (NLT)

4 Everything God created is good... 1 Timothy 4:4 (NIV)
2. SIN IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH LOVE.

Jesus: 12 “Sin will be rampant everywhere and the love of many will grow cold.” Matthew 24:12 (NLT)

3. SIN IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH SELFLESSNESS.

16 Wherever there is…selfishness, you find disorder and every kind of evil sin. James 3:16 (NCV)

4. SIN IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH BELIEF IN WHO GOD IS.
JESUS: 9 “(The Holy Spirit will show) that the world's sin is unbelief in Me.” John 16:9 (TLB)
SIN’S SERIOUS NATURE:

1. MY SELFISH DESIRE TO SIN IS NATURAL TO ME.

Paul: 14 “....The trouble is with me,...I am…a slave to sin…I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. 15 Instead, I do what I hate… 17 So I am not the one doing wrong; it is…my sinful nature… 23 But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind…” from Romans 7:14-23 (NLT)

2. MY FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD IS BROKEN BY MY SIN.

2 Your sins are the roadblock between you and your God. That's why He doesn't answer your prayers or let you see His face.” Isaiah 59:2 (CEV)

3. MY EVERY SIN CAUSES SOMETHING TO DIE INSIDE ME.

23 The wages of sin is death... Romans 6:23a NIV

15 These evil desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. James 1:15 (NLT)

4. MY SECRET SIN IS NEVER PRIVATE.

23 ...You may be sure that your sin will find you out. Numbers 32:23b (NIV)

7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone.” Romans 14:7 (NIV)
5. SIN DOES LONG-TERM DAMAGE.

7 Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. 8 But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. Galatians 6:7-8 (NLT)

3 “[Abijam] committed the same sins as his father before him, and he was not faithful to the Lord his God, as his ancestor David had been. 4 But for David’s sake, the Lord his God allowed his descendants to continue ruling, shining like a lamp, and He gave Abijam a son to rule after him in Jerusalem. 5 For David had done what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight…” 1 Kings 15:3-5a (NLT)

6. DISOBEYING GOD IS NEITHER FUN NOR FUNNY.

2 Doing wrong is fun for a fool… Proverbs 10:2 (NLT)
2 Doing wrong is like a joke to a fool. Proverbs 10:2 (ESV)

5 Because of your stubbornness in refusing to repent and turn from your sin you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. 6 For there is going to come a day of judgment when God will judge all people according to what they have done. 7 He will give eternal life to those who seek God... 8 but for those who are self-seeking and reject the truth and practice sin, they will face God’s anger.” Romans 2:5-8 (NIV/NLT)
HOW DO I BREAK FREE FROM PERSISTENT SINS?

1. UNDERSTAND WHAT JESUS DID FOR ME.
24 Jesus personally carried away our sins in his own body on the cross, so we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. 1 Peter 2:24 (NLT)

4 Although Jesus died on the cross in weakness, he now lives by the mighty power of God. We, too, are weak, but we live in him and have God's power. 2 Corinthians 13:4 (NLT)

6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ on the cross so that sin might lose its power in our lives. 7 We are no longer slaves to sin. 8 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. And since we died with Christ, we know we will also share His new life. Romans 6:6-8 (NLT)

2. LET GOD GIVE ME A NEW NATURE.
9 Those who have been born again into God's family will not continue in habitual sin, because God's life is in them now. 1 John 3:9 (NLT)

9 If you have the Spirit of God living in you, you are controlled by your new nature! Romans 8:9 (TLB)

3. CHANGE THE WAY I THINK ABOUT SIN.
10 When He died, He died once to break the power of sin. But now that He lives, He lives for the glory of God. 11 So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. Romans 6:10-11 (NLT)

12 Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. 13 Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. 14 Sin is no longer your master… Romans 6:12-14a (NLT)

4. CHALLENGE THE LIE BEHIND EVERY TEMPTATION.
