Your problems are a test of your faith and are your greatest opportunities for maturity—to live out your faith to a lost and dying world.
God has a word for those who show favoritism and partiality to others. The book of James gives steps to grow your faith.
A problem of our faith is when we say we know Jesus but our lives and actions tell another story.
“Grace is the principle upon which God justifies; faith is the means by which man receives it; blood is the price which the Savior had to pay; God is the active agent in justification; power is the proof and works are the result.”
A problem of our faith is when our speech is contrary to what we say we live for.
A problem of our faith is when the wisdom you seek stems from selfish ambition and jealousy.
James challenges us to grow in wisdom by mimicking the life of Christ, humbling ourselves and focusing on wisdom that is from above.
It’s time to choose a bigger faith!
Talk It Over
1. What stuck out to you most about the message? What is God saying to you?
2. In this season of reading the book of James, Brian challenged you to rate your faith (Red, Orange, Yellow, or Green). How did you rate yourself? Why?
3. Brian talked about favoritism and partiality from James 2:1-5 and he listed 3 ways to grow your faith in this area: See what God sees; Love your neighbor as yourself, and show mercy to others as God has shown to you. Which of these 3 comes most naturally to you? What is one thing you could do to improve your ability in one of these areas?
4. Brian shared about his personal struggles with comparison and how jealousy and bitterness can spring from comparison. Think of a time when you were overcome by comparison. Using a verse from James 3, give advice to someone who may be struggling in the same trap of comparison as you were.
5. Read James 3:17-18. What stands out to you about this passage? Brian challenged us to have a bigger faith. What are one or two things in your life that would be different if you chose to have a bigger faith? Who will you share these things with this week to keep you accountable?
