The word “tithe” literally means tenth or 10%. Tithing, or giving ten percent of your income, isn’t merely giving something to God. It’s giving back what was his to begin with. All that we have, or hope to have, comes from him. The Bible says that tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything. It teaches us to always put God first in our lives. Followers of Jesus view difficult circumstances, even those that create individual suffering, differently than the people of this world.
Followers of Jesus suffering for righteousness, I am able to live by faith, knowing His glory will fill the earth and then worshiping God joyfully.
KINGDOM PERSPECTIVE 1:
WHEN CALAMITY COMES — VICTORY
But the righteous shall live by his faith. Habakkuk 2:4
Righteousness is attained through Christ’s atonement alone.
All of us have become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like a filthy cloth. Isaiah 64:6
“...the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe…”. Romans 3:21-22
Followers of Jesus thirst for and pursue righteousness.
Followers of Jesus are persecuted for righteousness’ sake yet are not forsaken.
Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10
Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
2 Timothy 3:12
Persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 2 Corinthians 4:9-11
“Shall live by his faith”
…in good times and in bad.
…when we experience blessing and when we endure hardship. …at any cost.
KINGDOM PERSPECTIVE 2: WHEN CALAMITY COMES — HOPE
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. Habakkuk 2:14
“Moses said to the Lord, ‘See, you say to me, “Bring up this people,” but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, “I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.” Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight.
Consider too that this nation is your people.’ And he said, ‘My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.’ And he said to him, ‘If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not in your going with us, so that we are distinct, I and your people, from every other people on the face of the earth?’
And the Lord said to Moses, ‘This very thing that you have spoken I will do, for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.’ Moses said, ‘Please show me your glory.’ And he said, ‘I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name “The Lord.” And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. But,’ he said, ‘you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.’ And the Lord said, ‘Behold, there is a place by me where you shall stand on the rock, and while my glory passes by I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back, but my face shall not be seen’” Exodus 33:12-23
KINGDOM PERSPECTIVE 3: WHEN CALAMITY COMES — JOY
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. GOD, the Lord, is my strength. Habakkuk 3:18-19
Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls…. Habakkuk 3:17-18
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. GOD, the Lord, is my strength. Habakkuk 3:18-19
That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being.
Ephesians 3:16
“I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service” 1 Timothy 1:12
Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign LORD is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights. Habakkuk 3:17-19

Voice of the Martyrs - Burned But Not Destroyed
The Voice of the Martyrs’ 2022 IDOP video, Rebecca: Nigeria, tells the story of a Nigerian woman who watched helplessly with her daughter as Boko Haram militants killed her husband and son, and burned her home. When she searched the charred remains of her home, she found the Bible that she and her husband had received on their wedding day. “I still use this Bible,” Rebecca said. “It reminds me of God’s faithfulness.”
This short film will inspire viewers to pray for those who trust in God’s Word as they live faithfully for Christ on the world’s most difficult and dangerous mission fields.
You and your family, group, class or church can experience meaningful worship by watching this short video and then praying that every Christian in a hostile area or restricted nation will have access to his or her own Bible.
