Welcome to Revive Church!

Today we're introducing the first message in our new learning series Cycles. And, Pastor Stephan will be talking about the topic of family. Our theme passage of Scripture is Romans 12:1-2.

Tag @stephankilgore and use #revivechurch on social media to let us know you're here!
Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)
1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Pattern: a combination of qualities, actions, tendencies or the like forming a consistent arrangement

Pattern = Action

Arrangement = Behavior

Pattern + Arrangement = Cycle

Cycles are broken by Boundaries
Family Cycles

1. Stop saying, "I'll do things differently when..."
Start saying, "I will allow Jesus to do something different in me now."

Romans 8:10-11 (NIV)
10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

2. Stop saying, "Because of what my parents did..."
Start saying, "Because of what Jesus did..."

Romans 5:12 (NIV)
12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned...

Romans 5:15 (NIV)
15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!

3. Stop saying, "My family suffers from..."
Start saying, "I've been set free from..."

Romans 6:1-7 (NIV)
1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
