What Must We Do?
Obedience unto Holiness
1 Peter 1:13-16

Obedience unto Holiness
1 Peter 1:13-16
Pastor Jerry Koller
Children are not born obedient. Every inclination of their hearts are evil from childhood, God declares. This is a result of the fall. Theologians refer to this condition as total depravity.
· Obedience is a learned trait, one that requires discipline.
· We are still in the process of learning to obey to greater degrees.
· Obedience must always be practiced.
· We are still in the process of learning to obey to greater degrees.
· Obedience must always be practiced.
Verses on Obedience
Obedience = Rebellion
4th Imperative: Do not conform to the evil desires you had.
· A contrast is being drawn between the before and after.
· The before picture has to do with how one thought and acted prior to when they came to Christ.
· Ignorance is characterized by a lack of knowledge or education.
· It has to do with a lack of knowledge and understanding as far as divine things are concerned.

· It has to do with a lack of knowledge and understanding as far as divine things are concerned.
It includes moral blindness.
Our heavenly Father expects us to obey. We are moving forward, not backward.
5th Imperative: We are to be holy in all we do.
If there is one attribute of God that seems to encapsulate or engulf all of His other attributes, it would have to be holiness.
· “Holiness primarily means separation—separation from evil. It is essential, absolute purity.” - Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones,
· Holiness has to do being distinct, separate, or in a class by itself.
· “When the Bible calls God holy it means primarily that God is transcendentally separate. He is so far above and beyond us that He seems almost totally foreign to us.
· To be holy is to be ‘other,’ to be different in a special way.” - R. C. Sproul
· Transcendent means beyond and outside the ordinary range of human experience or understanding.
· Purity is the state of being free from sin or moral wrong.

“The Bible says that God is holy, holy, holy. Not that He is merely holy, or even holy, holy. He is holy, holy, holy. The Bible never says that God is love, love, love, or mercy, mercy, mercy, or wrath, wrath, wrath, or justice, justice, justice. It does say that He is holy, holy, holy; the whole earth is full of His glory.” ~R. C. Sproul

Oktoberfest Celebration: 11/6
A Time to Give On Sunday, November 6, we will receive a special Oktoberfest Offering. During our morning worship service, we will have an opportunity to present a monetary gift to God in thanksgiving for His abundant blessings and in joyful celebration of being a church who is committed to being what God wants us to be. We will receive an extremely important Oktoberfest Offering which will be used solely for payment of our building mortgage (annually about $36,000.00). Besides celebrating God’s goodness, our Oktoberfest Celebration will also be a time when we can recommit ourselves to fulfilling God’s calling “To Know Him and Make Him Known” and to the goal of living out our faith together. We are looking forward to what 2023 will bring as we see how God will use our building to impact the lives of others in our community. If you are unable to join us for the service, we hope you’ll consider either mailing or making an online contribution ahead of time. Your offering is vital to our ability to pay the mortgage. We thank you for prayerfully considering how you can contribute. A Time of Fellowship Following our worship service on November 6, we will enjoy a time of food and fellowship with a Potluck Dinner. Please bring a main/side dish AND a dessert to share that feeds at least 10-12 people. Sign up at https://www.PerfectPotluck.com/LXBV1183to let us know what you’re bringing and to avoid too many duplicate dishes. A Time to Help If you’re able to help with the potluck (set-up, serving, and/or clean-up), please contact Kim Collins.
