We are beginning a brand new series called "How to Plan Your Funeral". This is not a topic we spend a lot of time talking about but it is so very important. This week we are going to start by discussing the things that won't matter and those that will when that time comes.
God’s wisdom thru King Solomon challenges us. Read Ecclesiastes 7:2,4 together. Why do you think he says that "a wise person thinks a lot about death"? As a whole, is this something we are comfortable thinking about, or do we try to avoid it? Why?
What Won't Matter: Some examples include; politics, money, and our ever-growing to-do lists. We spend a lot of time, arguably most of our time, thinking about or doing these things. Yes, these things may be good and even necessary, but they don't matter the MOST. Can you think of some examples in your life that fit into this category to share with the group?
What Matters Most: Your relationship with God and the people you love and that love you! This is true for each and every one of us. Read the following passages and take some time to discuss how this truth is evident throughout.
Let's take the conversation further and get a little more personal. 2 things will matter more than anything at your Funeral; your relationship with God (Faith) and how you treated others (Love). How are these 2 things connected with one another? In other words, why must these things co-exist in our lives?
Simply put, the things that matter are the things that are spoken about at funerals. So let's live well and make these things matter NOW while we are here! As Pastor Jonathan put it, let’s "live well so we can die well". Pray as a group.
