“It is the policy of Satan to try to lead us to evil by those whom we love, whom we least suspect of any ill design, and whom we are desirous to please, and apt to conform to.”

2. Following God is important.
“It is our duty to prefer God and religion before the best friends we have in the world.”
- Commentaries on Deuteronomy, Henry, lxxviii

3. The deliberation of God.
Sermon Discussion Questions
1. Have you had a family try to pull you away to follow something other than Almighty God? How did you respond?
2. This passage might make us hyper-sensitive to all of our family, wondering if they will aim to pull us away. How do we not look at each family member with skepticism?
3. How do we love God with everything and still love our families well?
4. Describe a time when you followed a close friend, family member, or grandparent rather than following God? Describe a family member you have followed that truly led you to God.
5. How do we not be a stumbling block in someone else's growth in the Lord and stay true to the faith?
6. How can we differentiate between people trying to "pull us away" and merely having a different opinion?
