How to Break the Status Quo?


Sacrifice #1: commit yourself and your family to being a regular attender to a physical gathering if you are within driving distance; use online as a backup and exception to your normal routine.

Sacrifice #2 Be generous to God financially

1. What stuck out to you most about the message? What is God saying to you?

2. Barry described a sacrifice as “Laying something down so you can pick up something better.” Think about your life... what is one thing God might be asking you to lay down? What is one practical step you can take this week towards making that a reality?

3. Which of the 3 ways to break the status Quo comes most naturally for you? Which is the most challenging? In which of the 3 might God be asking you to take a bigger step of faith in following him?

4. Read Philippians 2:5-8. What are some of the descriptions and words used to describe the mindset of Christ? In what ways do you share this mindset? In what ways do you have room to grow?

5. In the Old Testament, priests brought a sacrifice to the Temple to be able to enter the presence of God. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross ended this once and for all, but Romans 12:1 says that when we offer ourselves to God, we are living sacrifices. In what ways does offering your life to Jesus bring you closer to the presence of God? What is 1 thing you can do differently this week as a living sacrifice, to get into the presence of God?
