If you could spend time with any other Bible character besides Jesus, who would you spend it with? Why?
James
---The brother of Jesus (Mark 6:3)
---Doubter of Jesus (Mark 3:21, John 7:5)
---Witness of Jesus’ resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:7)
---Leader of Jerusalem Christian Church (Acts 15:13)
---Martyr of the early Church (60 AD)
“But this younger Ananus, who, as we told you already, took the high priesthood, was a bold man in his temper, and very insolent…He assembled the Sanhedrin of judges and brought before them the brother of Jesus the so-called Christ, whose name was James, and some others. When he had formed an accusation against them as breakers of the law, he delivered them over to be stoned.”
--Josephus (Jewish historian) - Antiquities of the Jews 20.200
Why do we need this book?
We need a faith that works…
-and is more than just knowledge
-out all the lies of the world and leads us in truth
-and is beneficial to others
Who was it written to? and why?
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings. Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds... James 1:1-2
TRUTH 1: Trials Involve Testing
3 ...because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:3-4
TRUTH 2: Trials Involve Trust
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.9 Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wildflower. 11 For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich will fade away even while they go about their business. James 1:5-11
TRUTH 3: Trials Involve Triumph
12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. James 1:12
TURBO TRUTH: Trials from God involve testing, trust, and triumph.
REFLECTION
--Which truth are you wrestling with? (testing, trust, triumph)
--Which trial are you struggling through? (ask God for wisdom and perseverance)

May you jump into the arms of Jesus.
And may He push you out into the world.
May you be healed as you participate in the healing of others.
Not because you must, but because you may.
This is why we were born!
May you jump into the arms of Jesus.
And may He push you out into the world.
May you be healed as you participate in the healing of others.
Not because you must, but because you may.
This is why we were born!
