We are beginning a brand new series this week called "Why We Do What We Do". This week we are going to discuss why we follow Jesus and more specifically, why we get baptized.
"Why" is important. It provides us with meaning, motivation, and focus. Have you ever stopped to think about what your "why" is for following Jesus? Take some time and discuss this as a group.
The meaning of the word "follow" has changed over time. Social media has certainly had an influence on this change. When we are talking about "Following Jesus" we are saying to Trust Jesus and Live Jesus' Way. How does this look in everyday life?
Pastor Jonathan said that Following Jesus will cost you; not following Jesus will cost you more. Read Luke 9:23-24 together and discuss what this scripture means to you. Has there ever been a time when following Jesus has cost you? What were the rewards?
Read John 6 verses 66-69 and take some time to discuss Simon Peter's response to Jesus.
Pray as a group asking God to direct you in your next steps.
Have you been baptized? If so, take some time to share your story with the group.
Baptism is the Symbol of Following Jesus. Jesus set the example for us and asked us to follow. Read Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV). Why do you think that Jesus chose to be baptized?
