So what should a Spirit-filled church service look like today according to the Bible? And how can we make sure that emotions and personalities don’t take over?
Paul gives us five guidelines to help us stay on track and productive: V.26, “All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church.”
#1 Here’s our first guide: Will this ___ or ______the church?
#1 Here’s our first guide: Will this ___ or ______the church?
#2 Will this word ____, encourage and _____ the church? 1 Cor 14:3 “But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort.” NIV
“strengthen” is also edify- to build another up- give them hope, fill them with faith, renew their love and passion for God.
“encourage” or “exhort” – is a little stronger word- sometimes we need a little push to get us moving…
“comfort” is consoling, ask yourself will this word give hope?
#3 (The 3rd guideline) Be ______ and _____. Ask yourself, “Am I willing to accept correction or instruction from the church?”
#4 The spiritual gift of ______ must be _______. “12 The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets.” The Holy Spirit will not force you to say anything or force you when to say anything that is against your will.
VV. 34-35 forbid women from speaking or prophesying in the church “as the law says”. The “law” is the Jewish law in their culture.
Acts 2, Acts 21, 1 Cor. 11:5, Gal. 3:28, Gal. 6:15.
Acts 2, Acts 21, 1 Cor. 11:5, Gal. 3:28, Gal. 6:15.
#5 Be _____ to _____. Don’t let fear control your opportunity from the Spirit to build up and strengthen the church! Ask yourself, “Am I willing to let God speak through me today?”
