Three-Fold Commission
John 21:15-17
Pastor Jerry Koller

Luke 22:31-32

Question 1

John 21:15

“These” options:
Disciples
Disciples Love for Jesus
Fish
Peter Responds: "Yes Lord. You know that I love You."

John 21:15

Question Two—"Simon, son of John, do you truly love me?"
· Peter Responds: "Yes Lord; You know that I love You."
· Jesus tells him "Take care of My sheep."
Question Three—“The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?”
“...He said, ‘Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.’”

John 21:17

Jesus’ 3 Questions:
"Simon, son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” (v.15)
"Simon, son of John, do you truly love me?” (v. 16)
"Simon, son of John, do you love me?” (v. 17)
Peter’s Responses:
“Yes, Lord; You know that I love you.” (v. 15)
“Yes, Lord; You know that I love you.” (v. 16)
“Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” (v. 17)
Jesus’ Comments to Peter’s Answers:
· Verse 15 “Feed my Lambs.”
· Verse 16 “Take care of my sheep.”
· Verse 17 “Feed my sheep.”
Comments on Differences:
· Different word for love: Different words, yes, but there is no significant difference in their use.
· The word ‘feed’ in verses 15 and 17, and ‘take care of’ or ‘shepherd,’ mentioned in verse 16 refer to the same responsibility, not different responsibilities.
· The ‘lambs’ mentioned in verse 15, and ‘sheep’ mentioned in bother verses 16 and 17 are a reference to one and the same. They are not different groups.
The Point—Jesus is drawing Peter back to God’s plan for Him, back to his calling if you will.

Luke 5:10

· Peter was given a new purpose, a new calling.
· He would be a fisher of men.

Luke 5:11

Jesus was not about to let Peter drift back to his old way of life.

John 21:19

Return to your first love, Peter. I know you love me.”
APPLICATION
Do you love Jesus? Then follow Him.
Do you love Jesus? Then live as kingdom citizens.
Do you love Jesus? Then fulfill your calling as a witness of Christ.
Do you love Jesus? Then express your love for Him wherever you are in life
—at home, at work, at school, in private, in public, every moment, every day—until that time when you may glorify Him in death.
Remember, you have been bought with a price. So do all for the glory of God.

Fundraiser: Door Repairs and Replacement

GOAL: $14,400 | RAISED: $6850 If you have noticed when you enter the church through our main entrance, the outside steel doors are in rough shape. It has been determined that they need to be replaced. In addition, all the fire doors in the east wing need repair or adjustments; so do the double steel doors in the gym on the east side of the building. If there is any way you could contribute to this expense, it would be greatly appreciated. You can simply mark your donation with “Doors” and drop it in the offering on Sunday morning or make an online contribution at

Flower Bed Maintenance Needed

We need help maintaining the church’s flowerbeds. If you're willing to adopt-a-flower bed for the summer, please contact the church office or feel free to stop by the church at your convenience and pull weeds from whatever flowerbed catches your eye. If you contact us in advance, we can arrange for the shed to be open so you can get tools; otherwise feel free to bring your own.

Each year, Christmas Hope serves nearly 1000 children from our community with personal care items, multiple gifts, stocking stuffers, games, puzzles, craft projects, and more. Christmas Hope is also the central distribution point for the Toys for Tots program here in the South Haven area. The cost of the concert is $20. Tickets can be purchased by scanning the QR Code below or online. Tickets can also be purchased the night of the concert.
