This is the 5th week of our "What's the Point" series and today we are going to focus on the parable Jesus told called The Pharisee & Tax Collector.
We are possessive, yet the most important things in life have been given to us; life, time, family, etc... What would life look like if we lived life as stewards of these gifts?
God looks for and responds to humility. But, as Pastor Jonathan pointed out, our culture often has the wrong idea of what humility is. Discuss some ways in which our culture challenges the idea of humility.
Pastor Jonathan shared a few of the big benefits humility plays in our own lives. These benefits include: finding more meaning in life, having greater self-control, being more generous, and the way we face problems. Discuss some examples of how humility has benefited your own life.
Read Luke 18:10-14. Discuss the ways you see God looking for and responding to humility through this passage.
We can see evidence throughout the New Testament that humility is the intended way of life for Christ-followers. Read through the following passages below. Why do you believe there is so much emphasis placed on humility in the New Testament?
Humility is a Choice to see "it's not about me". Pastor Jonathan gave us some things we can think about when trying to practice humility. Discuss ways that you can apply these in your own life moving forward.
◦ Fight entitlement- in you (more in you than think/admit)
◦ See the real me- be honest with my own struggles
◦ Contemplative prayer- not just saying words, sitting in or with the
moment
◦ Put others first- their needs, desires, problems...
We all need this reminder. Take some time to pray out loud and ask God to help show you areas in your life that you can take the next steps toward humility.
