What is something that was really big (figuratively, literally) that had a great impact on your life?

About Psalm 119:

Gratitude / Awe / Dependence

How to read Psalm 119:
--2 sections a week
--Answer 2 questions:
-----WHAT does it say about God?
-----SO WHAT does it mean for me?

--Read through 1-3 times, circle common words, phrases that stand out to you.

This week's slice:
א Aleph
1 Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord.
2 Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart—
3 they do no wrong but follow his ways.
4 You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.
5 Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees!
6 Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands.
7 I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws.
8 I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me.

WHAT does this say about God?

SO WHAT does this mean for me?

ב Beth
9 How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.
10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.
11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
12 Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees.
13 With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.
14 I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.
15 I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.
16 I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.

WHAT does this say about God?

SO WHAT does this mean for me?

BIG IDEA - Blessed are you who live by the Word

Good News = Grace = Jesus = Spirit

As you go today
Where are you with Gratitude, Awe, and Dependence?
PCC Benediction
May you jump into the arms of Jesus.
And may He push you out into the world.
May you be healed as you participate in the healing of others.
Not because you must, but because you may.
This is why we were born!
Beyond Sunday
There may not be a better tribute to the Holy Scriptures than the one that is provided in Psalm 119. Every verse in Psalm 119 exalts the Word of God and the God of the Word. During this 10-week summer series, Finding The Way, we get back to the basics of allowing Scripture to help us grow in gratitude, awe, and dependence on God and His Word. In doing so, we believe it will guide us in the best way we should go in whatever comes our way. This week, we focus on how there is the promise of a blessing for us if we follow His Word.

1. Have you ever gone on a big extended journey that has changed your life? What was it and how did it change you?

2. This summer, we want to offer you the opportunity to go on a journey through the longest chapter in the Bible - Psalm 119. In doing so we hope that you will grow in gratitude, awe, and dependence on God and His Word. Which of those words - gratitude, awe, or dependence do you want more of when it comes to God and His Word? Explain why.

3. Read through Psalm 119:1-8. What is this saying about how to experience the “a blessed life?” Note: To be blessed is not being trouble-free, but to be fully satisfied, to have what you need.So what is the psalmist saying he needs in order to experience it?

4. Read through Psalm 119:9-16. If one way of describing Finding The Way is staying on the path to purity. How is the psalmist saying this is accomplished? (Note: all the “I” statements). Which one stands out to you the most?

5. Summarize: What do these 16 verses say about God? So what does this mean for your life?

6. Reflect: Which of these words have you grown most in during this session: Gratitude, Awe, or Dependence?
