Welcome to the start of a brand new series where together we are going to spend time with our Master Storyteller. A parable is a short memorable story that is portable and has a primary takeaway. When we look inward, we can see ourselves in His teaching. In week 1 we take a look at the parable called The Wheat and The Weeds. Spend some time as a group reading through and reflecting on the following passage.
This is very applicable to us today. How do we see the Weeds among the Wheat in our culture? And how do people typically respond to them?
The point Jesus was trying to drive home is that God knows, cares, and will set it all right. How do you see this in the farmer's response?
It's also important to keep in mind that if God were to get rid of the weeds and evil, we would be gone too. How does this resonate with you?
Pastor Jonathan offered the 3 takeaways below for us to ponder
1) We should join God and not try to be God. We tend to overlook the sin within us. Our job is to fight with goodness, love, grace, and truth. How do you see this reflected in the following passage?
2) What about the weeds within us, not just around us? What would it look like to take care of the weeds in our own lives and not simply focus on those around us? What steps could you take to put this into practice?
3) Be comforted and challenged by the coming harvest. Because God has authority and is sovereign over all things, we can trust in knowing He will sort out all of the weeds in His timing. God knows, cares, and will set it all right. How does this bring you comfort but also challenge you at the same time?
In light of this message and discussion, what are your next steps?
