Peter’s Family Background
· He was from the town of Bethsaida.
· His father's name was Jonah (or John).
· He had a brother named Andrew.
· He probably received the elementary education given to any Jewish child in that day.
· Since a Jewish boy usually learned the trade of his father, it is reasonable to assume that Peter's father was also a fisherman.
Marital Status—Peter was married.
First Encounter with Jesus—John 1:35-42
· Prompted by his brother Andrew
· Jesus changes his name Cephas (Aramaic) – Peter (Greek)
Second Encounter with Jesus - Mark 1:16-17; Luke 5:1-11
The Extent of God’s Grace
· God calls people from diverse backgrounds.
· What is important is that we hear His invitation to come follow Him.
· What is important is that we act upon that invitation.
· What is important is that we place our faith and trust in our Savior, the Christ, the · · · One who has come to save us from our sins.
You Have Been Given a New Name
· If you have surrendered your life to Christ, if you have placed your faith and trust in Him, if you have left your old ways behind to follow Him, realize you have been given a new name.
· An overcomer is one who has placed their faith and trust in Jesus.
· They are individuals who persist in the faith even in the face of adversity and persecution.
As to what this new name is, we can only speculate for Scripture does not tell us what this name is.
Is it possible that this new name we receive is “child of God?”
Leave All and Follow Him
· When we surrendered our lives to Christ, things changed. The old is passing away. · All things are becoming new.
· Do not return to those things that were once in opposition to the kingdom.
· Keep leaving them behind.
Don’t follow them for we are followers of Jesus.

Flower Bed Maintenance Needed
Expand
Spring is finally here and we need help maintaining the church’s flowerbeds. If you're willing to adopt-a-flower bed for the summer, please contact the church office or feel free to stop by the church at your convenience and pull weeds from whatever flowerbed catches your eye. If you contact us in advance, we can arrange for the shed to be open so you can get tools; otherwise feel free to bring your own.

Fundraiser: Door Repairs and Replacement

If you have noticed when you enter the church through our main entrance, the outside steel doors are in rough shape. It has been determined that they need to be replaced. In addition, all the fire doors in the east wing need repair or adjustments; so do the double steel doors in the gym on the east side of the building. We have contacted S.A. Morman and Co. in Portage to fix these issues. The cost will run approximately $14,400.00. We have raised $2800 so far. If there is any way you could contribute to this expense, it would be greatly appreciated. You can simply mark your donation with “Doors” and drop it in the offering on Sunday morning or make an online contribution at
