Use this space to take your general notes during the message.
Today we take another look at Jesus' most well known parable. Keeping in mind the Heart of the Father, we now turn our attention toward the younger son. There is much to continue to learn about the true nature of God, but also about ourselves. Let's take the story a few pieces at a time...
Read the following passage and reflect on a couple of questions. If you were the father in this story, how would you feel about your son's request? How would you be tempted to respond?
The next part of our story offers a glimpse into the effects of the son's choices. Pastor Jonathan explains that "prodigal" means "wastefully extravagant". Reading through the following verse, what did the son "waste"? (Think beyond the material.)
We soon discover that the son's reality didn't live up to his hopes and expectations. Based on the following passage, what version of the son does Jesus now describe in His story?
What does it signify about the son that he had a planned, rehearsed speech to offer as soon as he saw his dad? What does it suggest that he expected from his father?
In order to express the Heart of the Father, we must choose to focus not on what was done and lost, but what/who was found. Why is this so difficult?
How do you relate to the younger brother?
It can be said that our Father's Love is "wastefully extravagant". How so?
Who do you need to welcome home?
As a result of this message and discussion, what are your next steps?
