Contents in the Ark of the Covenant
1. The ten commandments - The covenant God made with them
2. A jar full of manna - A reminder that God provides for their needs
3. Aaron’s rod - A symbol that God works through his people to bring new life (Numbers 17).
“God calls us to something greater than ourselves, so a healthy disorientation--not knowing how we’re going to do this, or even 'I don’t exactly know where this is going'--is the call of faith for those following Rabbi Jesus in wonder and amazement.” --Jose Humphreys in Seeing Jesus in East Harlem
PCC BENEDICTION
May you jump into the arms of Jesus.
And may He push you out into the world.
May you be healed as you participate in the healing of others.
Not because you must, but because you may.
This is why we were born!
Beyond Sunday
During this 9-week series, we will focus on what it means to be called by God. Simply put, we are Ordinary People with Ordinary Callings. We each have an ordinary call that takes a unique shape in a specific place. Our ordinary call is 3-fold: Loving God & others (Connection), making disciples (Multiplication) and healing a broken world (Restoration). The SHAPE it takes is based on our Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality and Experiences. The place we find ourselves is where God has positioned us in the world for His work to be completed. This week, we reflected on how two men who used their abilities to live into their calling.

1. Take a moment to reflect on our theme verse 1 Corinthians 7:17. What are you realizing about the situation God has placed you in? And how are you owning your 3-fold calling more?
-CONNECTION Loving God & Others (Matthew 22:36-40) -MULTIPLICATION Making Disciples (Matthew 28:18-20) -RESTORATION Healing A Broken World (Matthew 6:10)

2. Read Exodus 31:1-10What are you noticing about who God is calling, how and for what purpose? How do you see this relating to Ephesians 2:10?

3. Bezalel and Oholiab made the Ark of the Covenant. They gave what they already knew. Then God took what they gave and made it holy by indwelling His Spirit. The Ark contained the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments, Aaron’s rod, and a pot of manna. Israel would bring the Ark with them and it would change the outcome of battles. How do you see the 3-fold call of connection, multiplication, and restoration playing out in what these two men did?

4. In the Old Testament, God’s Spirit dwells in certain people (prophets, leaders, craftsmen, etc.) and things (ark, tabernacle, and temple) to accomplish His ways. In the Gospels, Jesus has the Spirit of God come down on Him. In the rest of the New Testament, we witness that the Spirit of God enters those who believe. Read 1 Corinthians 6:9. Where are you with acknowledging and owning the fact that the Spirit of God is in you? And as a result, are you of low or high belief that God can use your life in an extraordinary manner?

5. Jose Humphreys, in Seeing Jesus in East Harlem, says “God calls us to something greater than ourselves, so a healthy disorientation not knowing how we’re going to do this, or even ‘I don’t exactly know where this is going’ -- is the call of faith for those following Rabbi Jesus in wonder and amazement.” How is this quote encouraging or discouraging to you?

6. What can you already do? Have you offered your abilities to God? How has God used this part of your SHAPE to benefit His Kingdom? What more might God do if you allow Him to use your abilities in the specific place of your calling?

Daily Prayer:
Lord, help me to live into my 3-fold calling (Connection, Multiplication, Restoration), understand my SHAPE, and partner with you in the location you have placed me in this world.
