A study was done on the societal pressures that men and women face. The qualitative data is based on interviews with lots of men and women discussing the sort of people individuals felt formed and pressured to be.
MEN: Winning, Emotional Withdrawal, Defiance, Violence, Dominance, Playboy Persona, Self-Reliance, Prioritization of Work, Leadership Over Women, Disdain for Effeminacy, Pursuit of Status.
WOMEN: Be thin, Be pretty, Be nice, Be quiet, Be domestic, Be a good wife, Be an even better mom.
Notably missing from this list is anything about Jesus.
Notably missing is the possibility of making an impact outside the home.
Notably missing is anything about developing and leveraging your gifts to love God and the world.
Notably missing is the idea that women have much to offer men other than sex and a clean house.
Motherhood can honor God or not. A career can honor God or not. What matters most is whether or not you are living God’s Word.
If God isn’t calling you to be a mother or a wife, that doesn’t mean God isn’t calling you. It means He’s calling you somewhere else. Answer the call.
The authors of the gospel present a Jesus who judges people from the inside-out, not the outside-in.
The phrase “to sit at someone’s feet” was a technical term from that time meaning, "to be someone’s disciple".
Jesus says, this is where women belong most, as my disciple.
The woman that touched Jesus was considered unclean. But, rather than Jesus becoming unclean when she touched him, she became clean!
The only reason you exist is bc God WANTED you.
