Open My Eyes - Phil Kendon
The story of the disciples travelling on the road to Emmaus after the resurrection is both strange and a little bit funny. Jesus comes to walk alongside them, and they do not recognise him. As they walk together, Jesus explains how all the scriptures are talking about him. It must have been an incredible sermon because their hearts were burning as he spoke. After a long conversation, they sit down to their evening meal and Jesus picks up the bread to break it. In that instant, they realise it is him, but he disappears from before their eyes. They make their way back to Jerusalem immediately to tell the other disciples what had happened. We also need the eyes of our hearts opened to see Jesus more clearly so that we can follow him more faithfully.

Even if our circumstances seem overwhelming and we can’t see God at work – he is still there.
Don’t let your circumstances blind you to the obvious signs of God’s work.
All the stories, teachings, and ceremonies in the bible are ultimately telling us something about Jesus.
When our eyes are open to see Jesus in the scriptures, it moves our hearts as much as it changes our minds.
An encounter with Jesus changes everything.
Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.
