Maundy Thursday
As the Passover approaches, Jesus’ disciples want to make preparations for this most sacred meal. What they find out, however, is that Jesus has already been making preparations. He already has a room reserved. This is the message of the gospel. Jesus already has taken care of the most important things in our lives – our lives, our sins, and our eternities. On Maundy Thursday, we celebrate a meal that is a tangible indication of what Jesus takes care of for us.

This is a multi-day preparation routine for this meal. You pick a lamb on the 10th day of the month, you slaughter it on the 14th day of the month. You have herbs and bread for sides. There is a fair amount of work required. What’s interesting is that, when you eat it, you aren’t supposed to enjoy it. It is supposed to be “eaten it in haste” (Exodus 3:11).

So, it’s time to celebrate the Passover. One problem the disciples have is that they’re just now thinking about preparing for Passover. They should have had a lamb four days ago.

Jesus prepared the meal for the disciples AND He prepares this meal for us … His disciples. He prepares it for us and He prepares us through it!
1. Jesus prepares us for struggles.
1. Jesus prepares us for struggles.
“When bad things happening to Me, you’re going to be terrified the same bad stuff will happen to you.” Peter, believes he has all the preparation he needs to face these struggles. He says: “Even if all fall away, I will not.” Mark 14:29
2. Jesus prepares for us salvation.

What’s missing? The lamb! And it’s not like the Mark just left it out. None of the Gospels mention it.
The Lamb of God is at the table. He is offering salvation to His disciples – and to all of us who will put our trust in Him. Jesus is preparing us for salvation. The Lamb of God offers us salvation, hope, forgiveness and peace. Come to the table. Jesus has prepared it all for you!
