BIG IDEA: Commitment to common Kingdom values changes our world

Jesus Shares the Kingdom Values:
After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. Acts 1:3

The Spirit Empowers
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place...All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Now there were staying in Jerusalem, God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. Acts 2:1, 4

3,000 Join the Kingdom Cause
"Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah." When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit...Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. Acts 2:36-41

Commitment to Common Kingdom Values Changes Our World
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common...enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-44

When the truth about Jesus gets a hold of our hearts, our values begin to shift from earthly to kingdom minded.

Why is it so hard to stay focused on Kingdom values?
--Our values are found in our screens, bank accounts, and calendars

THIS WEEK: Evaluate Your Values

--Where am I with PCC's Values?

PCC BENEDICTION
May you jump into the arms of Jesus.
And may He push you out into the world.
May you be healed as you participate in the healing of others.
Not because you must, but because you may.
This is why we were born!
Beyond Sunday
The Book of Acts details the start of the early church. In this seven-week series, we will call ourselves to strive toward our six PCC values as we are inspired by those who did the same as they established the Church. And if we do so, both individually and corporately, we will experience freedom and become a part of His glorious movement in a needy world. This week we reflect on how commitment to common values can change the world.

1. Where do you see people living out their values around you (individually and corporately)?

2. Consider this definition of the word values - “our underlying principles that act as a current that direct our behavior.” Have you ever truly pondered what your values are? When and how? Or why not?

3. Read Acts Chapters 1 & 2. As you read, clarify what are the multiple values you see being lived out? What else stands out to you in this story of God creating a movement of over 3,000 people that would continue on to impact us today?

4. What is the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives when it comes to shifting our values from earthly to kingdom minded? Do you think it is possible to change your values without the Holy Spirit?

5. Review the values of PCC - Live the Word, Follow the Spirit, Relate Well, Give Generously, Seek Justice, Share Jesus. Which come naturally and which are a challenge?

6. This week observe your behavior to determine what values you are truly reflecting. Act curious and not condemning to yourself. Ask God to reveal what is true and give your heart for His Kingdom ways more than just earthly ways.
