Triumphal Entry? | Behind the Curtain Part 7

Triumphal Entry? | Behind the Curtain Part 7

Long before Jesus set foot on our planet, before He ever took on human form, He had a purpose, personality, and presence that was prophesied in the Bible. As we look toward the Christmas season, we go behind the curtain to learn who Jesus really was.

When we talk about the birth of Jesus, we’re actually talking about the birth of the Son of God.
This can be confusing at face value, until we look behind the curtain.

2 Samuel 7:11-17

Nathan the prophet speaks to King David about his throne and his legacy. Here we learn that:

He will be David’s offering - his own flesh and blood.
He will be on a forever throne and Kingdom.
That He will have a Son and Father relationship with God Himself.
That this person will do “wrong” and be punished by human hands.
That the love of God will never be taken from Him.

Jesus is born, David’s flesh and blood through Mary, covering the first prophecy.

Matthew 21:1-11

Jesus rides into Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives. All of the locations involved are important.

2nd Prophecy. He will have a forever throne and kingdom.

Jesus came in every way that the entrance of a king would be recognized, including how kings came into the capital city as in Zechariah 9:9 and 1 Kings 1:33.

3rd Prophecy. It would be a Father/Son relationship with God Himself.

The people are singing a song called the Hallel from Psalm 118, which normally would be sung at the Feast of Tabernacles in October, not Passover in April.

This angered the priests, who knew that this song was meant to be sung to God alone. Hosanna means “Save us!” The people were crying out for a Savior, connecting Jesus to God!

4th Prophecy. He will do “wrong” and be punished by human hands.

How could Jesus do “wrong”?

Isaiah 53:4-6

2 Corinthians 5:21

The gate He was entering is significant.

Ezekiel 43:1-5

In Ezekiel we learn that the prince brings the offering through the Eastern Gate, a gate that only the prince was allowed to use. The prince presents the sacrifice to the priests, who offer the sacrifice.

Jesus was and is the only true King, the Son of God, and the Son of David. He is the Prince who brings the sacrifice to the priests. He Himself is the Sacrifice.

He is the two goats from the Day of Atone, both for the sacrifice of atonement and the scapegoat - completely innocent but suffering as if He did “wrong” for the sins of us all.

5th and final Prophecy. God’s love will never be taken away from Him.

Isaiah 53:10-12

You find the love of God when you find an intimate personal relationship with Jesus!

Believing in Jesus is not a leap of faith when you look behind the curtain. The evidence is obvious. Christmas isn’t just about that He came, but why He came.
